Alfred State University Upgrades with MicroMod

About This Project

Faced with equipment obsolescence and the need to increase their boiler efficiency, the State University of New York at Alfred decided to upgrade their burners and controls for four hot water generators.

Alfred originally had a jackshaft combustion control strategy using Bailey SLC controllers. The new system replaces the SLC controllers with MicroMod’s MOD 30MLs, upgrading the control strategy to parallel positioning with oxygen trim. This is a much more efficient control strategy and will provide significant savings on fuel consumption. The project also includes new Coen burners, Variable Speed Drives, and instrumentation.

MicroMod’s control system was part of the winning general contracting bid from Frank Lil & Son from Rochester, New York.

The customer is also pleased that MicroMod is able to support them with spare parts and repairs for the Bailey SLC controllers through the migration
